Communications
Open and dynamic communication systems are essential to healthy democracies and Global Partners takes the human right to freedom of expression as the foundation for all of its communications work.
Open and dynamic communication systems are essential to healthy democracies. They ensure that citizens can communicate their needs to political representatives, that politicians can communicate their policies to the public and that public opinion is based on wider access to information. The continual evolution of the internet and other digital networked technologies presents a constantly changing set of challenges for human rights and democracy. Global Partners & Associates is addressing the implications of these developments at local, regional and international levels.
Freedom of Expression Project
Global Partners was commissioned by the Ford Foundation to explore the impact of communications technology on human rights worldwide. The project is now in its third year, and in that time we have held workshops in Africa, Asia and Latin America in partnership with a network of civil society organisations. Through its original research the project has built a policy framework for fostering communications and media systems that support freedom of expression and the public interest. We are currently in the process of applying the framework in a number of countries, including Pakistan Argentina and Kenya exploring opportunities for partnership between civil society, business and government stakeholders.
Organisational analysis and strategic advice
Global Partners has conducted a strategic review for the future development and work of International Media Support, a Danish-based international NGO which supports both media organisations and journalists in conflict situations. Our final report provided the basis for the organisation's plan of work, focussing on mandate, method of operations and strategic priorities.
