Human rights and public policy
Global Partners and Associates believes human rights are a core element of global governance and an important tool for shaping public policy.
We specialise in understanding the practical impact of human rights standards on how governments and public officials manage services and develop policy.
The following are a few of our human rights projects:
Human rights and anti-poverty
We conducted an international research programme for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to examine the impact of human rights on anti-poverty strategies in India, South Africa, Latin America and Ireland, and to identify lessons for the UK, including its devolved administrations.
Human rights and the health service
We have conducted a number of analyses for care and health institutions – such as the National Health Service, the Care Quality Commission and the Mental Health Commission – showing how human rights values can help them with key management dilemmas. We’ve also conducted staff training for these organisations and produced a guide to human rights for regulators, funded by the Ministry of Justice.
Human rights for older people
We provided strategic advice to Help Age and Age UK on the feasibility of an international convention on rights for older people.
